E esta é a verdade, mesmo aquela sobre a Doutrina, Disciplina e o Culto de Deus, que os piedosos desejam acima de todas as suas vantagens exteriores, e acima de todas essas obras de Reforma que tendes em mãos; especialmente provede contra a ignorância geral do povo por meio de uma Catequização sólida e séria; e contra a profanidade do povo por meio de uma Disciplina poderosa, para que assim os Sacramentos possam ser dispensados confortavelmente.

Os próprios pagãos eram cuidadosos quanto aos seus sacrifícios idólatras: "Afastai-vos, ó afastai-vos, profanos!" E lemos na História que o sacerdote, estando para sacrificar, fazia esta pergunta: quem estava ali? A resposta era: homens bons e honestos.
